The film adaptation of Erik Larson’s book The Devil on the White City will bear the same title and will star Keanu Reeves, who this time dives into the small screen for a period series featuring the story of America’s first serial killer.
The Devil on the White City series is a story based on the novel of the same name by Erik Larson and which for years has been part of a project by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese in which they wanted to transform the novel into an audiovisual product.
Early reports on the series tell us that the story will follow Daniel H. Burnham, a visionary architect who wants to impress the world at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. However, a somewhat creepy twist brings with it Dr. H. H. Holmes, the country’s first modern serial killer and the man responsible for the Murder Castle.
The lead actor himself, Keanu Reeves, also intends to join the series’ team of producers as filming begins and is scheduled to start early next year. Even with all these details we do not know more names about the cast, and Leonardo DiCaprio, who is one of the executive producers, bought the rights to the novel in 2010, so we can not rule out the appearance of the actor in the series.
The latter would not be strange when Keanu Reeves himself will also be involved in Netflix’s adaptation of his own work, BRZRKR, a graphic novel he wrote and published himself. This series is expected to follow a bit along the lines of other adaptations such as Death Note and Cowboy Bebop. Perhaps DiCaprio will also decide to play one of the characters in the novel that he has been preparing for so long to bring to the audiovisual level.
As officially announced by the platform itself, The Devil on the White City will be available on Hulu and although the specific date is not specified, rumors point to a premiere in 2024. Those who have already read the novel and are closely following this project are eager to know more, some have even created fan-trailers to illustrate different possibilities about the adaptation.
