Mamma Mia! is a world hit musical film that was released on the big screen in 2008. In it the story is intertwined with some of the most famous songs of the music group ABBA. The plot tells the story of a young girl, Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried, who on the occasion of her wedding is looking for her father. Her mother, Donna, (Meryl Streep) had never wanted to talk about him so she decided to read her old diary to try to find out something. In it she finds that her mother during her youth had been with 3 different men: Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Bill (Stellan Skarsgard) and Harry (Colin Firth). As even then it is not clear which of them is her father decides to invite the 3 to her wedding without telling her mother. During the story all of them realize that they could be Sophie’s dad but it is not clear who is the real one. So, at the end of the first part the three men decide to share her as their daughter.
In its sequel the young girl also does not discover which of the men is her father, so who will be the real one remains the biggest doubt that any fan of Mamma Mia! has. Well, not only them, but even the actress herself doesn’t really know who is the father of the film’s protagonist.
After many years of its premiere, Amanda has dared to publicly tell during an interview with Vanity Fair her theory about who is Sophie’s father. The actress is pretty sure that the real father has to be Bill. She states that she feels it because of the scene of the song Voulez Vous, where the three men realize that Sophie might be their daughter. ” It is one of the purest moments of the film because there is a lot of pride in it, but also a lot of shock and fear. Total acceptance in a very short time. It’s a time when the circle is closing and I always secretly hoped that Stellan was really his father. I mean, Bill” confessed Seyfried.
Even though we like her theory it surely contrasts with Donna’s great love during the films for Sam. The actress also thinks it would be funny if it was him because of his personality during the films. “He was the person who seemed less likely to want to have children” explained the Mean Girls interpreter.
Despite Amanda’s theory, fans of the film hope that there will be a third film of Mamma Mia! in which they clarify this mess. Many of the actors have said that they would be delighted to continue with their role but nothing is certain yet. Will there finally be a third movie? Will Bill really be Sophie’s father?
