Jaguar XJR-15 was one of the most important 90´s supercar for the automaker and for the 90´s supercar´s in general. This is the road version of the race model XJR-9, and the British company only built 50 of those models, 27 to use on the road, and one of those exclusive cars will be auctioned at the end of August.
This car will be auctioned when the sale of RM Sotheby’s of Monterey is celebrated on 20th August. The auction house believe that the owner will have to pay near $1.2 million to buy this exclusive model. The car that is going to be auctioned is an original car, but it was restored in 2015, so it is in a perfect condition.
To make this model, Jaguar based in its competition car XJR-9 that won in Le Mans two times, in 1988 and in 1990, for example, it has the same suspension. Moreover, the carbon monocoque chassis was so similar, but had different dimensions. Over all those components, the brand put carbon fiber and Kevlar bodywork to achieve more lightness. This car has a V-12 engine that generates 455 horsepower. With this power, this car can achieve 346 km/h.
The model that is going to be auctioned is the number 18. This model has a story behind it, because the owner of this number was a Nismo´s ex-engineer that used this car for some aerodynamics studies and to check energy recovery systems. So this story makes this car even more special than another models. But those variations has been changed for the originals by the Bespoke Motors experts, in Australia. This car has only travelled 1,600 kilometres.
This is a jewel for historic cars collectors and it is going to be auctioned in the next weekends. It is true that it has suffered some changes during its live, but the experts has restored it like this model was launched 31 years ago, so for a collector that have money to buy it, it is an irresistible moment to take it.
