Since 2019 when Head Above Water was released, we had no new album from punk princess Avril Lavigne. After three years without bringing new music, one of the biggest teen idols in history has returned with her seventh studio album Love Sux.
After such a long time it was scary that Avril had moved away from her style but, once again, she has brought us back to adolescence. The new work, which was released on February 25th, has brought her back to her pop punk roots. What is most surprising is that at 37 years old, the Canadian singer has managed to make an album with such a youthful spirit.
Celebrating her 20th anniversary in the music industry, Love Sux features 12 songs with collaborations from industry and genre greats such as Machine Gun Kelly, Mark Hoppus and Blackbear. The album has been produced by DTA Records, the record label of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker who also has collaborations on several of the tracks.
However, it seems we’ve been left without hearing many of Lavigne’s incredible creations as, in a recent interview, she revealed that Love Sux was meant to make a double album and that she had written over 30 songs with producers John Feldmann and Mod Sun.
“I have some favorite tracks that weren’t even part of the album, I could literally put out another album right after this one”,
Avril commented
What we do know is that on social networks, especially Twitter, most users imply that Avril Lavigne’s new album is like going back to adolescence, 20 years later.
And not only the fans were nostalgic, but there have been many artists who have relived the wonderful era of the 2000s. For example, Huening Kai, a member of Tomorrow x Together, one of the K-pop groups that is causing sensation and succeeding, was encouraged to upload a cover of Lavigne’s famous song Sk8er Boi. Cover to which the singer reacted with very good reviews. Undoubtedly a wonderful way to commemorate the release of the new work of the singer.
