Some luxury automakers are fabricating some iconic models of their history. The last of those has been Bentley, the British automaker has come back to live the Speed Six, a competition car took part of the 24 of Le Mans in 1928, 1929 and 1930, winning the race in the last two years, and very known for achieving two race records, the fastest lap at that time with 7 minutes and 21 seconds, 46 seconds faster than the previous record, and the most distance traversed with 2,844 kilometres, this was the race record for 30 years.
The automaker has not introduced any modification or improvement, it has the same characteristics of the original version produced 100 years ago. It has a six cylinder 6.5 engine that produces 200 horsepower as the race version had, because the street version generated 182 horsepower, and with the short chassis that was used in the race car model.
Adrian Hallmark, Bentley’s executive director, has said “After Mulliner’s team acquired incredible levels of ability thanks to the development of the Blower continuation series, and with the car success with her customers, the opportunity to honor the Speed Six is a fantastic next step. Is vital that we protect, preserve and develop not only this important part of our patrimony, but the knowledge that we have acquired working with those classics Bentleys too”.
The British company has made 12 copies of this special Speed Six models and all the prototypes has been sold by paying £1.5 million. This is an incredible car for the classic car models lovers, a car that will transport the owner 100 years ago and will drive a car that made history in one of the most iconic races in the wold, the 24 hours of Le Mans. For sure, we will see some new models like this during the next years.
