After the huge success La Casa de Papel had, it was announced that Andrés de Fonollosa, also known as Berlin will have a spin-off due next year. The spin-off will tell the story of the character played by Pedro Alonso. The series features Michelle Jenner, Julio Peña, Begoña Vargas, Joel Sánchez and Tristán Ulloa, among others, as part of the cast. The spin-off will feature eight episodes directed by Albert Pintó, David Barrocal and Geoffrey Cowper.
One of the most popular Netflix series, if not the most popular on the platform is La Casa de Papel (Money Heist), a Spanish TV show that started its production in Atresmedia which is a Spanish media group. The series premiered on May 2nd 2017 and finished on November 23rd of the same year. However, Netflix bought the distribution rights and the series became more popular internationally. Netflix developed more seasons making the show extremely popular around the world. Now La Casa de Papel or Money Heist has five seasons and its last one aired on December 3rd of 2021 where the fans said goodbye to the “gang”.
La Casa de Papel consisted of a man known as “Professor” who recruited eight people who chose city names as aliases. The professor and the group had the plan of getting inside La Fábrica de Moneda y Timbre (Royal Mint of Spain), and its objective is escaping with almost a billion euros. The group led by the professor outside the building and by Berlin (Pedro Alonso) inside, are exposed to fighting with the police forces and with the hostages themselves. After the first heist, the group’s members must hide and prepare for a second heist. This time, they aim to rob El Banco de España (Bank of Spain) where they have a gold reserve, and again, they must deal with the police and hostages.
Money Heist reached the public so much that they started loving almost all the characters in the series, such as Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), Río (Miguel Herrán), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Helsinki (Darko Perić), Nairobi (Alba Flores) and Berlin (Pedro Alonso), among others, but specifically the last one is that the one that has taken all the fame.
However, there is no official trailer yet, Netflix released a teaser announcement on November 21st of 2021. The platform released on October 3rd of 2022, a trailer introducing new characters such as Keila (Michelle Jenner), Roi (Julio Peña), Damián (Tristán Ulloa), Cameron (Begoña Vargas) and Bruce (Joel Sánchez). The filming has begun and is taking place between the French capital, Paris and Madrid. For now there is no exact release date, Netflix has only announced that it will air in 2023. Although Berlin did not appear so much after the second season, this spin-off is done to give more prominence to the character.
Berlin has been one of the most important characters of the series, in fact he is one of the few who has been shown his background story. In the last seasons Berlin’s flashbacks had a lot of importance throughout La Casa de Papel, some of them revealing secrets that would later be key in the series. This spin-off aims to keep telling his story but in a more detailed way. The audience empathized with Berlin for his good humor, as well as his leading role in robberies.
It is not confirmed yet if other characters will have cameos in this spin-off, according to the screenwriter Esther Martínez Lobato it would be a “spoiler” to announce the appearance of another character. Also the screenwriter does not rule out the possibility of other spin-offs of the other members of the gang.
