The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (from Ferrari) made history the last Sunday after winning his first race on Formula 1 on the Britain Grand Prix (tenth race of this championship). The race was redone after losing his “poleman” position on the race exit in the last part to his teammate, the Monegasque Charles Leclerc.
This race will be remembered also because the big accident that Zhou suffered in the first lap of the race. The race stopped for an hour to clean all the scraps. Fortunately, the Chinese driver went to the hospital and he is now recovering without any problems. On the other side, Carlos is the second Spanish driver to win a race in Formula 1 after Fernando Alonso (he made 32 victories for Spain at the moment). He won his first victory on his 150 race. And he is the winner number 112 in the Formula 1.
He was not discouraged by giving up the first place at the start in favor of the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who ran out of options due to a puncture and reliability problems with his car, nor was he discouraged by a Leclerc with more pace overtaking him in the lap 31.
He patiently waited for his opportunity which came with 12 laps to go with the appearance of the safety car. He entered garages to wear soft tires while the leader Leclerc stayed on the track and in the restart of the race he overtook him to go to his first victory in Formula 1. He fight face to face with Charles and, on this time, Sainz was really aggressive and motivated to win at Silverstone. Binotto (main boss of Ferrari) scold Charles because he jeopardised the race many times.
For the first time, Sainz started a Grand Prix with no one in front of him. But Verstappen., on a soft tyre, overtook him on the starting straight to take the lead. Alonso, who started seventh, gained two positions from Lando Norris (McLaren) and Sergio Perez (Red Bull) before the red flag flew at Silverstone.
The final podium was completed by “Checo Perez” and Lewis Hamilton. However, the fight for this podium with Leclerc and Alonso behind them was really huge for the fans.
Verstappen is still leader of the world championship but Carlos, Leclerc and especially his teammate Sergio Perez are closer to him. Let´s see what will happen on the next Grand Prix (Austria GP).
