The Federal Polytechnic Institute of Swiss has proposed to revolutionize the air people and merchandise transport with their plane project called Clip-Air, a plane able to transport some cabins or capsules like the freight train. Because they have said that the aviation world has to change, that is what the boss of the project, Claudio Leonardi, has said: “Airports are more and more disconnected over the time, waiting times are longer and all days they have delay”.
This project was initiated in 2009 and it pretends to achieve some multimodal mobility mechanisms in water, land and air. They have the challenge to build a universal cabin able to be transported by a truck, a boat and a plane. In the presentation of the project, they have decided to show the plane that could transport three of those cabins during the flight.
In the website they say “the Clip-Air propose a revolution that could be used further the aviation. The known system concept itself is renewed until this date, the configuration of the airports and the way that the people and merchandise transport are combined”.
Some experts suggest that it will take over 40-50 years to create a ship like this that could transport three of these cabins. But, the project pretends to have a prototype in ten years, but smaller than this Clip-Air that they have designed, it will be like a private jet. For example, the founder of Airinsight, Addison Schonland, has said that it is brilliant idea for the engineering, but it will be tough to make it work in the market.
The company has said that they are speaking with some brands in the sector to know their opinion of this project, but they are aware of it will take a lot of time and work to design it and make it functional.
