Victoria’s Secret is continuing its image-cleansing operation: if it no longer celebrates its famous annual fashion show with super-perfect bodies and has signed up diverse women for its campaigns, it now presents its first male ambassador: actor Darren Barnet.
he 30-year-old star of the Netflix series ‘I Never’ is the first male face of the famous lingerie brand, specifically for its genderless ‘Pink’ line, aimed at teens.
Teenagers wear Victoria’s Secret too. Or at least that is the aim of the brand, which with this new Pink line wants to capture the young market not only of women, but also of men. And for this it hired actor Darren Barnet as the new face of the genderless collection, presented in February last year.
In the new video campaign, launched on social media, the star wears tie-dye T-shirts with the brand’s logo, shorts and sweatshirts in pastel colours.
“I love the work Pink is doing,” Barnet said in a statement, “and I especially love their focus on mental health and inclusion. I am truly honoured to be a part of this team.
The collection has an oversize cut and sizes range from XS to XXL. “I wasn’t quite ready for it at first,” Barnet admitted in an interview with Us Weekly, “but then they showed me the line and I said to myself, ‘Wow, this is the kind of stuff I would wear.
Over the past two years, Victoria’s Secret has focused on a radical rebranding, and the genderless collection is yet another example of that. “We are thrilled to announce this partnership, because Darren is a truly positive role model for teens and young adults,” Pink CEO Amy Hauk explained to the New York Post, “and while we are focused on increasing our gender freedom and continuing to evolve as a brand, we also want to make sure that our partners not only represent the diversity of our customers, but also embody individuality and self-confidence.”
