Kenny Scharf re-conceptualizes China’s 2022 zodiac sign on its new collaboration with Dior.
After working together on Dior’s FALL 2021 MENSWEAR show, the luxury brand’s creative director Kim Jones and famous American artist Kenny Scharf decided this first collaboration hasn´t been enough (for neither of them) as it’s resulted products left everybody wanting for more. That’s why they carried on with this journey (side by side) and launched a new exclusive capsule collection earlier this January, inspired on China and its lunar calendar.
From the very beginning, the collection was meant to pay tribute to its just chosen Chinese zodiac sign, the Water Tiger, and It didn´t disappoint. Nevertheless, this time, the fashion brand left more prominence to the multifaceted artist with plain and simple silhouettes, so its artwork, an original reinterpretation of its emblem, meaning a colorful but urban graffiti styled cartoonish tiger, become the main character of the capsule.
This funny and irresistible motif was transformed into prints of all sizes, embroidery and also patches placed all over shirts, knitwear, denim pants and quilted anoraks, including wallets, hats and bags, where the feline also sneaks in, among others pieces. For its part, Dior chose a palette of red, white and blue mainly, with touches of black and a light camel tone (for transitions between colors). Specially this first one as a referent of Chinese culture.
First available in Asia, now the collection can be pursuit on certain stores and from everywhere if online it’s your thing. Here we left you some of our favorites:
