Recently, one of the movies that we did not imagine would have a sequel did, it is definitely  Enchanted, which came out in 2007. This year, on November 16, its second part, Disenchanted, premiered after fifteen years, and the magic is back on our screens. Adam Shinkman directed the film, a new face in comparison with the first movie where Kevin Lima was in charge of the project. The American musical fantasy comedy is produced by Amy Adams, Barry Sonnenfeld, and Barry Josephson, and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures associated with Josephson Entertainment and Right Coast Productions.

Disenchanted is set after the events of Enchanted where years after her happily ever after, Giselle, Robert, and Morgan move to a new community, and Andalasia and the real world are thrown off-balance. The family lives in Manhattan, but this life starts to drag them on. Giselle (Amy Adams) plans to move the family to Monroeville, located in the suburbs. The family will have to face situations that arise.

The stars featuring the sequel are Amy Adams as Giselle (who is Robert’s wife, Morgan’s stepmother, and Sofia’s mother), Patrick Dempsey as Robert Philip, Maya Rudolph as Malvina Monroe, Yvette Nicole Brown as Rosaleen, Jayma Mays as Ruby, Gabriella Baldacchio as Morgan Philip (in the first film this character was played by Rachel Covey), Idina Menzel as Nancy (Edward’s wife and Queen of Andalasia), and  James Marden as Edward (King of Andalasia).

As recurring, Oscar Nunez portrays Edgar, and Kolton Stewart is Tyson Monroe. Griffin Newman lends a voice to Pip, a chipmunk who is friends with Giselle and the narrator of the film. In comparison with the first film, Pip is able to speak in the real world and Andalasia through magic. Newman replaced Jeff Bennett and Kevin Lima from the first film.

In February, 2010, Walt Disney Pictures planned to film an Enchanted (2007) sequel with the same producers. The media constantly asked to the producers and stars about the sequel, but no one confirmed the project. In 2014, Disney hired screenwriters J. David Stem and David N. Weiss to write the script for the sequel and also hired Fletcher to direct the film. There were some changes and Adam Shankman ended up directing the film.

Filming began on May 3, 2021, in Los Angeles, some scenes were filmed in Dublin and Wicklow, and filming in Ireland concluded on July 22, 2021. Earlier this year some shots at Hambleden, Buckinghamshire, England were taken.

Even though the first movie had outstanding reviews, where Rotten Tomatoes certified fresh the film giving it a score of 93% out of 100% and a 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb, the sequel did not meet the critics’ expectations since it scored 39% out of 100% at Rotten Tomatoes with 75 reviews, and a 6/10 at IMDb. Disenchanted had high expectations since Enchanted (2007) was a total success in the cinema.
If we remember, back in 2007 Princess Giselle is banished from her kingdom by her lover’s evil stepmother. Giselle is transported to the real world where she meets Robert who is a lawyer and eventually falls in love with him. Enchanted (2007) is available to watch on Disney+ with a subscription. Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Youtube, Google Play Movies & TV have the option to buy at 3.99 USD.
