Olivia Rodrigo has been succeeding in many ways and we have already talked about her in every possible way. From the release of her album to her influence in the fashion world, to the moment she became Billboard’s Woman of the Year. However, just when we thought Olivia couldn’t surprise us with anything else she has come out with something that has delighted and surprised us in equal parts.
The American actress, singer and songwriter has announced a new documentary reflecting on the making of her debut album SOUR. Driving Home 2 U (a SOUR film), directed by American fiction author Stacey Lee, chronicles a road trip Rodrigo took from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles when she was writing SOUR. It gives a very personal and intimate insight into the process and memories of the process of creating his album.
The Californian artist shared some details of the film with her fans on her Instagram account, along with the teaser. The documentary will premiere on Disney + next March 25 and will feature all 11 songs from her album performed with new arrangements and in unique and special locations such as the Mojave Airplane Boneyard or Red Rock Canyon State Park.
The film explores how the album came to be through Olivia’s personal stories and behind-the-scenes footage featuring intimate moments showing her activity in and out of the studio. It should not be forgotten that with the arrival of her quadruple platinum debut single, driver license, singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo revealed the tremendous power of her raw self-expression and ultimately cemented her status as the most promising young artist of recent times.
Then would come her debut album to endorse it all. All 11 tracks from the album have landed in the top 30 of Billboard’s Hot 100, making Rodrigo the first female artist to simultaneously place 11 or more songs in the top 30.
Disney Branded Television President, Ayo Davis, commented that this film will be “a unique cinematic experience where first-time fans will understand how her album came to be and why it was such a personal journey for Olivia.”
“This is not a concert film per se, but an opportunity to experience firsthand how Olivia Rodrigo became one of the biggest musical stars of the moment, and a chance to see her perform the songs from SOUR like never before”, she added.
