After some weeks giving clues to her fans, Dua Lipa has released her first single of her third studio album.
“Houdini” is a sexy song where she doesn’t have time to stay. The topic is love, and she expects that man to follow her and make her change. On the lyrics, we can read “Maybe you could be the one to make me stay”.
The song comes after her success with her album “Future Nostalgia”. The rhythm follows that disco essence, but she gives it a twist. It’s the first thing we can listen from her soon to come out album.
The song is produced by Tame Impala and Danny L. Harle. We can feel their work on the synthesizers all along the music. Besides that, they Dua Lipa‘s style keeps standing out on the disco vibes and dance beats. This new era apparently comes with red hairs and improved choreography.
On a recent interview with Apple Music, the singer explained: «The lyrics are shameless, but there is an underlying message, that of knowing oneself deeply, knowing what one is worth, and not feeling guilty about it». She also talked about some difficult times. «Sometimes you have to become a Houdini and leave a situation that is not giving you anything»
Furthermore, she also admitted that after the tour she fell in love with live sounds and that she wanted that on her new album. The singer hasn’t stop working, but this disco-pop sound she expects us to feel it more free and exciting.
The song was released on the anniversary of Houdini’s death. Besides that, the platform Genius explains on the song description some actions Dua did with her fans. “On 8 November, less than 48 hours before the single’s release, Dua went to BBC where she and Greg James chose one random passerby to be the track’s first listener. The following day, on the single’s release date, 300 lucky fans were invited to an early screening of the song’s music video alongside Dua herself, two hours before the world premiere.”
With the song, she also published a music video. On her YouTube channel, we can see that visuals that surpassed 17 million views in 24 hours.
On the music video takes place on a gym mirror where she performs a choreography with many dancers, all with red hair. The wardrobe is quite eighties and comfy.
With this song, Dua is back in the music actuality. By the moment, she has been collecting awards and success. This song is called to become an anthem like “Levitating” on its era. But this is only the first taste of the new Dua Lipa.
