Dune (Dune: Part One) is a film directed by Denis Villeneuve, based on the 1965 novel by Frank Hebert. Back in 2021, the movie gained an unexpected success in the United States. As a consequence, the possibility of the project having a second film began, and now is a fact, because Dune 2 will be in theaters next year. With this sequel, Villeneuve will be able to tell the whole story based on the book written by Hebert. Dune 2 is set to premiere on November 3rd, 2023. It will be an exclusive release in the cinema and after 45 days it can be seen in other platforms, still, it is not confirmed yet if Warner Bros. will modify this plan to a longer-term period.

Dune (2021) portrays the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and his family, the noble house Atreides, where the family seems involved in a war to acquire the desert planet Arrakis which is known for being deadly. On the other hand, Dune: Part Two, will explore the journey of Paul Atreides as he teams up with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen (a fictional group of people created by Hebert in 1965) in order to get revenge against the conspirators who destroyed Atreides’ family. In Dune 2 many characters will gain more importance compared to the first movie, since it was said by the own director that Chani (Zendaya) was going to be the main protagonist, truth was that she barely appeared in the movie.

The protagonists and main characters of the first film return such as Timothée Chalamet who will be playing Paul Atreides again, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stella Skarsgard as Vladimir Harkonnen, Dave Bautista is playing Glossu Rabban, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem will be playing Gaius Helen Mohiam and Stilgar respectively. In fact, it was confirmed that Florence Pugh, Austin Butler and Christopher Walken will be part of Dune 2. Pugh will play Princess Irulan, meanwhile Butler and Walken will play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen and Emperor Shaddam IV respectively.

Now Denis Villeneuve can complete the saga of Dune, though the filmmaker even said he wants the project to be a trilogy, where he would adapt the novel Dune Messiah, the second installment written by Frank Hebert which consists on six more installments, the last two were published after his death, both were written by Brian Hebert (Frank Hebert’s son) and Kevin J. Anderson.

The music in Dune plays a fundamental role in the film. Hans Zimmer is the composer and producer behind the soundtrack. The German two and four times winner of Oscars and Grammys will definitely be back in the sequel since he confirmed on Twitter. Zimmer is known for making the soundtrack for films like Inception (2010), Interstellar (2014), The Lion King (1994), The Dark Knight (2008), Pirates of the Caribbean (2003, 2006, 2007, and 2011), Dunkirk (2017), 12 Years A Slave (2013), and so forth.

The filming of Dune: Part Two started in July, 2022 and since the first film was successful, fans are expecting the same result with the sequel, besides several actors will have more minutes on screen and new faces are coming to this film with high expectations.
