Ed Sheeran left a hole in the hearts of his fans back in 2019, when he decided to retire from the stage temporarily. Something that in a way made sense because he started his career at a very young age and events in his private life led him to want a break. Luckily, the retirement has been brief and we have Ed Sheeran ready to return to the world of music.
During his retirement, the singer has lived completely away from the media and has focused on raising his own family. He also went to live in the countryside, in a small town where he could lead a much quieter life away from the media spotlight. However, his return has brought with it great successes and a new tour.
The artist kicked off his new tour on April 28th with the Mathematics Tour, in support of his fourth studio album which continues his saga of numerical symbols. This album is preceded by Plus (“+”), Multiply (“x”) and Divide (“/”). It was at the end of the Divide world tour when he decided to retire, and it was on February 17, his 30th birthday, that he decided to surprise his fans by announcing his return to the music. Speculations started right away, because within the singer’s numerical saga some signs were missing, so many expected the next album to be about “_”, but soon it was revealed that the project would be called Equal (“=”).
His latest song has been 2Step, which he has made together with singer Quevedo. A project that undoubtedly has been of great surprise to everyone for being the first song of Ed Sheeran in collaboration with a Spanish-speaking artist. The song is part of the 12 remixes of the original song that this time has chosen to try a style closer to the trap, but keeping the original style of the English hit characteristic of Ed Sheeran.
In other 2Step remixes in which he has collaborated with other artists (Lil Baby, Antytila, Leto, 1.Cruz…) he uses different musical styles, with genres to which his collaborators are more accustomed. Maybe it’s a way to test himself by combining different styles of music. Of all these, the most famous version is the one he did with Lil Baby, which has accumulated more than 26 million views on Youtube.
What is clear is that Ed Sheeran is back to stay, and that Equal (“=”) is his next step to win back the hearts of fans who were not ready to forget him either.
