The 2022 Emmy Awards, presented by the Television Academy of America, will be held on Monday 12 September at a gala that still has no presenter and will crown the best series and performers of the season. Succession (25 nominations), Ted Lasso (20), The White Lotus (20), Hacks (17), Only Murder in the Building (17) and Euphoria (16) are some of the shows that have accumulated the most nominations. By networks and platforms, HBO leads with 140 nominations, followed by Netflix’s 105
The nominations for the 74th Emmy Awards have been announced, with Stranger Things, Better Call Saul and Ted Lasso being recognised. The 2022 Emmy ceremony will finally be in person, after a two-year hiatus thanks to COVID. No hosts have been announced for the night as of this writing, but producers reportedly asked Chris Rock and Dwayne Johnson to host, as well as Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, but none of those parties were interested in the job.
The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards was an entirely virtual event, losing some of the glamour of previous years. Still, given the global pandemic of the moment, the producers did their best to put on an entertaining show. Lady Gambit and The Crown each took home 11 wins that night, giving Netflix its first Emmy win.
Ted Lasso won for Comedy Series, as did its star, Jason Sudeikis, for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. HBO’s brilliant and criminally underrated comedy Max Hacks took home thanks to Jean Smart’s impressive performance as Deborah Vance, which earned her the win for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. One year on, the nominations for the 74th Emmy Awards feature some returning favourites and some new players in the game.
Announced by J.B. Smoove and Melissa Fumero, the 74th Emmy Award nominations include Abbott Elementary and There’s Only Murder in the Building in the comedy series category, along with Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and What We Do in the Shadows.
HBO’s Succession is the biggest winner, with 25 nominations, although the network’s first drama, The White Lotus, racked up 20 nominations. Fan favourites Stranger Things, The Squid Game and Euphoria also made the cut with 13, 14 and 16 nominations each. To see the full list of this year’s nominees
