The Marvel Universe continues to grow and more MCU (Marvel Cinematographic Universe) movies are coming in 2023, including Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse released in 2018. The second film will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin Thompson, three different directors in comparison to the first movie which was directed by Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, and Rodney Rothman. The sequel is due on June 2nd, 2023. Here is everything we know so far about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
What is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse about?
Miles Morales is back for a new chapter, an epic adventure that will transport him across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-people to face off against a villain who is the strongest one they have ever encountered. The film will be split into two parts, the first part will be out in June, this is why Phil Lord and Chris Miller (screenwriters) had written the story they wanted to tell in the sequel, but they realized it was too much for just one film.
Who stars in the film?
It is known that both Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) are animated films, so there are no actors playing the role of a specific character, yet they are lending their voices to give life to these fictional characters. Some of the actors being part of this project are:
Shameik Moore as the voice of Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as the voice of Gwen Stacy, Oscar Isaac as the voice of Miguel O’Hara, Jake Johnson as the voice of Peter B. Parker, Issa Rae as the voice of Jessica Drew, Brian Tyree Henry as the voice of Jefferson Davis, Luna Lauren Velez as the voice of Rio Morales, and Rachel Dratch as the voice of Principal.
As a recurring cast, Daniel Kaluuya as the voice of Hobart ‘Hobie’ Brown / Spider-Punk, Jorma Taccone as the voice of The Vulture, Shea Whigham as the voice of George Stacy, and Jason Schwartzman as the voice of Jonathan Ohnn / The Spot.
Some of these stars like Kaluuya have been part of projects like Get Out (2017), and Black Panther which is a movie from the franchise, and Steinfeld has also been part of films like The Edge of Seventeen (2016) and the Marvel series Hawkeye (2021), where the actress plays the role of Kate Bishop.
Where can you watch both films?
The Marvel film is set to premiere in theaters on June 2, 2023, it is not confirmed yet if the movie will be on streaming platforms like Netflix.
Though the first movie is available on Netflix (with a subscription), Apple TV for $3.99, Prime Video, Youtube, and Google Play Movies & TV for $1.99.
Which characters are in the film?
The first film showed us that there is not just one friendly neighbor, in fact, there are many more in different eras and universes, with different characteristics. Some of these are:
Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, Peter B. Parker (Middle-aged Peter), it is uncertain if Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham will come back for the second film. On the other hand, new characters are coming, like Captain George Stacy (Gwen Stacy’s father) and The Vulture (one of the Spider-Man enemies). Another addition to the cast is Spider-Woman, a character created by Archie Goodwin and Marie Severin in 1977.
The fifth phase of Marvel comes with everything and it will be a difficult phase to forget for fans since there are both movies and series of superheroes that are loved by the public, such as Spider-Man.
