This new experiment will try on two Grand Prix on 2023. Also, pilots will be forced to use a certain tire in each part of ranking.
The Formula 1 will try a new ranking system in some races the next year thanks to a change on the tire normative.
The FIA approved recently the proposal to reduce from 13 to 11 the number of tires that teams could use on every weekend on the 2023 season. Now, the American web portal Motorsport.com informs that apart from the tire reduction, F1 will try a new ranking system on two Grand Prix the next season (still to be determined).
At the moment, pilots have the freedom to choose what tires ride on every part of the ranking. On the experiment of the next year there will be an obligatory tire for each section of the weekend.
The Federation has announced on and updates of their rules of 2023 that the drivers will use hard tire on the Q1, medium on the Q2 and soft on the Q3. If any of these sessions it declares with adverse weather conditions, on that case, they will can choose the tire they want.
The distribution on these tires will also change throughout the weekend. At the moment, the drivers receive 8 pairs of soft, three of mediums and two of hard. On the weekend experiment they will have 4 pairs of soft, four of medium and three of hard.
This change is focused that pilots will have to use more variety of tires during the weekend. The goal is that there is less waste at the end of the week. Apart of this experiments, FIA also has approved the celebration of development tire test on two Grand Prix this year. The rules say that the extra-dry tires they can use during the second free training session any driver, including the “rookies” as part of the running that corresponds to driver by regulation to help his training.
