The first rumours about the Pixel Watch have been heard since some years ago. In 2020 LetsGoDigital spotted a patient where they explained that Google was working on a skin gestures feature. This could be a great change for smartwatches and buds.
In this patent, that was leaked, the document uses a Pixel Buds to demonstrate skin gestures in use. To use this new feature, accelerometers inside the device would detect “mechanical waves” that travel from the touch on the skin to the wearable device. This patent explains to that it can work with any wearable.
Google has been always trying to improve their products, and is not the first time they experiment with alternative gestures. For example, the Pixel 4 had what they called “Motion Sense” which used a dedicated sensor to track the hand movements above the device. But the failed on that try and they stopped to produce Pixel 4 with this gesture.
There is only a patent, but Google is one the brands who is trying to make new things and new products. They have not said anything about this information, but is clear that they are working on it. We have to wait until the next Google’s buds and watches are for sale to know if they are with this skin gestures.
