Fans of the saga The Hunger Games will have to wait a few months before they can see the new movie Ballad of songbirds and snakes, announced a few weeks ago by the producer Lionsgate. The prequel takes place several decades before the adventures of Katniss Everdeen, a character played by Jennifer Lawrence, who this time will not appear on screen. It will be released on November 17, 2023, and the details of the film are not yet known as it is still in production.
One of the confirmed actresses of the film is the young Hunter Schafer, known mainly for her role in the HBO series Euphoria. Schafer will play Tigris Snow, Coriolanus Snow’s cousin and confidant. The film will relate the rise of Snow, played by Tom Blyth, as the leader of Panem. Rachel Zegler will play Lucy Gray Baird in this fifth installment of the saga.
At just 20 years old, the actress amasses more than 7 million followers on social networks and has become a benchmark in the fight for the rights of transgender people. At the age of 12, Schafer realized that he had been born by mistake into a man’s body, so he decided to start his transition. In the series Euphoria, she plays Jules, a young transgender woman who has a romantic relationship with Rue, played by Zendaya.
Titled Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, he recently added Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth to lead roles.
The studio has again entrusted Francis Lawrence with the task of relaunching the saga after On Fire and the two parts of Mockingjay, while the script will be handled by Michael Lesslie, author of the adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, with the support of Suzanne Collins, author of the original novels and the prequel and the writer of Little Miss Sunshine, Michael Arndt. The hunger games were a box office hit, raising more than $2.97 billion. The producers want to regain that commercial push.
