After the departure of Virgil Abloh in the last part of 2021, Off-White as a brand needed since then a successor that could embodied the true identity of the brand. He already planned a lot of releases in different areas of the brand like the new beauty line or the last fashion show. But, what does the future hold for the brand?
In recent days, Ib Kamara has been presented as the new Art & Image Director of the brand. His extensive journey in the fashion sector has provided him the possibility of becoming the first of a collective of creative minds that are going to represent the brand for categories. Trying to follow Virgil’s path, everyone that is part of the group had to have a strong and personal connection with the designer before his death.
The power of Kamara’s image-making comes from creative people that were praised for their ability of creating instantly recognisable and well-defined iconographies. This clear vision projected towards the future plus the enthusiasm in giving Black youth a prominent role in the industry, is what makes a relation between Abloh’s and Kamara’s work.
The last collection of the brand was Spaceship Earth and it was a celebration and tribute to what Virgil Abloh did creating and exploring the brand roots. It explored for the first time how is to present couture pieces to overcome the monotonous job that a creative can have sometimes. Also, it included a flag with a “QUESTION EVERYTHING” in the middle, this message is the most representative of Abloh’s work and what he wanted to bring into the fashion industry among others. The revolution that he started is not completed yet, there is much to see and discover from this brand in a near future.
