After years of speculation, the well-known Scottish actor has confirmed in front of The Guardian cameras that he is “indeed” married to Lisa Liberati. It has taken James McAvoy almost three years to admit his engagement to the American actress he met on a film set.
McAvoy and Liberati first met on the set of the horror thriller “Split” in 2016. They began to know each other and two years later it was common to see them together in different photographs, until the relationship was confirmed. Already in 2019 there were rumors that the couple had said yes, however, neither the media nor the family nor McAvoy addressed those rumors.
The actor, who is currently promoting the play “Cyrano de Bergerac”, which premiered in London, made his engagement public in an interview where James could no longer hold the secret. Still, he says he prefers not to give too many details about their relationship for “fear of creating sensational fodder.” Perhaps that’s why he didn’t want to tell at the time.
The couple appears to be living happily in Liberati’s hometown. McAvoy says he felt the city of Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife, “like a second home.”
Prior to this idyllic relationship, McAvoy was married to his former “Shameless” co-star Anne-Marie Duff. The couple met on the set of the British TV show in which she played the role of Fiona, the love interest of his character, Steve. The couple announced their divorce in 2016 and share an 11-year-old son. Shortly after is when she met Liberati. However, this second relationship to want to take it out of the media.
