David Ayer’s action thriller was released January 12
The action thriller film is David Ayer’s latest directorial work, starring Jason Statham, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson and Jeremy Irons. The Beekeeper was released by Amazon MGM Studios last Friday, January 12 expecting it to gross $17–19 million in its opening weekend. There is still time to say if those goals will be met, but it made $2.4 million from Thursday night previews.
Eloise Parker lives in the country and rents her barn to Adam Clay, a beekeeper (a literal one). When Eloise falls for a phishing scam and ends tragically, Clay contacts the Beekeepers, a powerful, underground organization. His brutal campaign for revenge takes on national proportions after it is revealed that he is a former member.
So far, the film has received mostly good reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, 67% of 106 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.9/10. ““The Beekeeper” is the best kind of bad movie — which is to say, it’s the sort that puts entertainment ahead of pretentiousness, embracing the laughter sure to accompany such an unapologetically stupid, ultra-violent premise.”, writes Peter Debruge for Variety. Therefore, nothing groundbreaking about The Beekeeper, but still a fine piece of entertainment and a very satisfying performance by Statham.
