Actor Joe Keery, who rose to fame for his role in ‘Stranger Things’, revealed what his jobs were before joining the Netflix series.
In “Stranger Things”, one of the most successful series on the Netflix platform, actor Joe Keery plays Steve Harrington, the popular high school kid who over the seasons becomes a key figure in defeating the monsters that haunt Hawkins County.
However, before taking on this role, the 30-year-old has had other jobs. In an interview with the show hosted by Jimmy Fallon, he told how his life was before his entry into the streaming giant’s fiction, which led him to fame.
“I was a waiter and I did commercials,” Joe Keery said. “I was a pretty good waiter. I was pretty charismatic and what I lacked in organisation, I made up for in, maybe, delivery,” added the laugher, who has also appeared in other productions such as “Spree” and fronts the band Post Animal.
How did he get into “Stranger Things”? The actor said: “I auditioned, you know how it works, they send it all over the country [auditions]. I taped it. I didn’t hear anything. Three months later I got the call back for a different role, for Steve, and I said, ‘Oh, wow, the idiot boyfriend?'”
In the same conversation with Fallon, Joe Keery detailed how he reacted when he found out he had landed the role in “Stranger Things”. In fact, he received this news in the back of the restaurant where he worked, as he was thrilled.
He then told a co-worker who used to help him record his auditions about this achievement in his career – which includes roles in “Sirens”, “Chicago Fire”, “Empire”, “The Charnel House”, “Free Guy” and “Molly’s Game”.
“I saw him, he was probably stocking the truffle sesame or something and I just said, ‘I got the job!’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, get back to work,'” the Massachusetts native joked.
Finally, Joe Keery teased that a character will die in the fifth season of “Stranger Things”. But fans can rest assured that it won’t be Steve Harrington.
