Total look by RETRO MADRID
Social media have marked a before and after in our lives. Not only for those who consume them, but also for those who work and live from them. Today, being an influencer is a job and this profession helps many people to demostrate their talent on different platforms. This is the case of Juan Pérez who at only 20 years old is already one of the most acclaimed tiktokers and instagramers of our generation.
With more than 1.9 million followers on TikTok and 378 thousand on Instagram, Juan combines his work in social media with his Psychology studies at the University of Extremadura. Born in 2001, this very young guy is able to captivate his audience on any platform he uses and the content he creates is so varied that his videos can please anyone.
- What was it that led or motivated you to start a career in social media?
The truth is that it was something totally unexpected. I could never have imagined everything I’m achieving. It’s all been very fast and I still can’t assimilate it, but I’m sure that with effort and dedication I will continue to give my best!
- How do you combine your personal life and studies with your work in social media?
Many people ask me this question, but from the beginning I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I think that if you know how to organize yourself properly and divide your time for each thing, everything is much easier. I could define this question with 2 words: responsibility and commitment.
- In the future, do you plan to dedicate yourself only to social networks or do you want to practice what you are studying?
It is always difficult for me to talk about this, since from the beginning I have had in mind to practice something related to my career, but you never know what the future may bring and I’m a person who doesn’t close to anything.
- Has your life changed a lot since you have been in this world?
To be honest, my life has changed a lot, mostly socially, because you are constantly meeting and interacting with new people. It’s a world where fortunately if you surround yourself with the right people, you can live experiences that you could never have imagined. It has also changed in terms of attitude, since now I measure much more everything I say or do, because for many people you are a reference.
- What one thing would you say characterizes you or would be very much yours?
Something that characterizes me without a doubt is my sense of humor. I like to be approachable and I am constantly joking around. I think that life itself has many worries and I think a great way to combat this is to take life with humor, but always depending on the situation in which one finds oneself.
- Do you have any idol or person that inspires you?
I don’t have any idol per se that I look up to, because in this world, I think that looking up to just one person can be a mistake, as there is so much talent out there. But I have to say, those people who constantly support me are my source of inspiration because it’s always good to receive recognition for what you do.
- We see that you make very varied videos from POV to dances and challenges, what kind of videos do you like to make the most?
I’m a person who likes to vary a lot in content and touch different areas, because I don’t like to focus on a specific type of video. I enjoy every video I make, from a dance, to challenges with my friends, to a POV video, so I couldn’t stick to just one.
- You get a lot of views on all your videos, what do you think sets you apart from other tiktokers and what do you do to achieve that?
I think everyone has their own way of being, their “essence” and that’s what makes us different from each other. But at the end of the day, what the follower is looking for is to get to know that person better and, by doing lives on the different platforms as I do, it helps to be closer and get to know the tastes and thoughts of your followers.
- If one of your best friends were to start working in social media as a profession, what advice would you give him?
One main thing I would tell him is to always keep his feet on the ground, to keep surrounded by the people who support him and who have been there from the beginning, because in the worst moments they will be the engine that will boost his spirit again. He should be grateful for everything, since he will never know when you are going to be in that situation and above all, he should not focus his whole life on social media, since it’s good to disconnect from them sometimes.
