Last week, Stray Kids’ new mini album, ODDINARY, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s famous Top 200 Albums chart, the weekly ranking of the most popular albums in the United States. The achievement not only marked the first time Stray Kids has entered the Billboard 200, but also made the group the third Korean artist in history to top the chart (after BTS and SuperM).
Stray Kids is now enjoying its second week on the Billboard 200. During this week, ODDINARY ranked 11th, making it the first K-pop album of 2022 to spend two weeks in the top 15. In addition, the album also maintained its place at No. 1 on Billboard’s World Albums Chart.
ODDINARY is a seven-track collection that debuts with 110,000 equivalent units achieved mostly from the wide variety of physical formats available. It is a mini album self-produced by the group members and combines different styles of music from urban with Charmer, to ballads with Lonely St. and Waiting For Us to dubstep with FREEZE.
Their new EP arrives with a repertoire that has not taken long to become the favorite soundtrack of their millions of fans around the world. “Stray Kids will solidify their presence and continue their rise in popularity through extraordinary music, concept and performance of their new (and well-made) release,” their agency assured Korea JoongAng Daily.
During a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Felix, one of the members, said, “We didn’t expect to reach number one on the Billboard 200. We couldn’t believe it, but as time went by, we thought about how much STAY (the name of their fans) enjoyed the ODDINARY album.”
Stray Kids is characterized as one of the most autonomous fourth-generation KPop groups in the industry, as most of its members participate in everything they sing. Since its inception, the idols have a subunit called 3RACHA, formed by Changbin, Han and Bangchan, which is in charge of the production, composition and songwriting of the group’s songs.
For those who don’t know who Stray Kids are, they are a K-pop boy group created by JYP Entertainment through the survival program Stray Kids in 2017. The group consists of eight members Bang Chan, Lee Know, Chang Bin, Hyun Jin, Han, Felix, Seung Min and I.N.
