The opening night of the hip-hop music festival kicked off in Miami on Friday and was full of surprises from artists including Kanye West, who surprised guests with a one-song appearance after the festival previously announced he would no longer be headlining the day.
The artist was greeted on stage by Lil Durk while wearing a futuristic set of shades and black paint on his face. His appearance came as a total shock to the crowd, who fell silent before erupting in cheers.
West performed “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” from his Life of Pablo album, as fans from other stages rushed to see the rapper in action.
Attendees couldn’t help but speculate whether West’s decision to play his Life of Pablo tune was an insult to Kid Cudi, who appears on the song.
Cudi replaced West as Friday’s headliner and admitted to having issues with the musician, previously saying that he and West “aren’t cool”.
“I made this song a year ago when I was still cool with Kanye. I’m not cool with that man,” Cudi wrote on Twitter at the time. “He’s not my friend and I only cleaned up the song for Pusha because that’s my boy. This is the last song you’ll hear from me with Kanye.”
The pair previously sparked a feud in February when West announced that Cudi would not appear on his album Donda 2 because of her friendship with Pete Davidson, who is dating West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian .
