2023 is not only full of drama, romance, horror films. The comedy genre will also take place this year. Fewer comedy movies will be released, but rest assured that it will not be a year only of drama and tears, but also of laughter. This week, specifically on January 13, House Party, a comedy film will be premiered. The film is directed by Charles Kidd II, better known as Calmatic. The project is based on the 1990 House Party comedy film directed by Reginald Hudlin.
Aspiring club promoters and best friends, Damon and Kevin are barely keeping things together. Out of money, down on their luck, and about to lose the roofs over their heads, they need a huge windfall to make their problems go away. They soon decide to host the party of the year at an exclusive mansion, which just happens to belong to the NBA superstar LeBron James. What could go wrong at this party?
The cast of this movie is quite peculiar, not because it has well-known actors, but because it has important and well-known celebrities worldwide.

The cast features NBA players like LeBron James, and Anthony Davis both currently playing for the LA Lakers. Some recognized singers like Snoop Dogg, Tinashe, Lil Wayne, Rotimi, and Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) are also having screen time in the film.
In 2018, it was announced that New Line Cinema was developing a remake of House Party with LeBron James and Maverick Carter producing the film with their own production company SpringHill Entertainment. A year later, it was confirmed that Calmatic had joined the production as director. The film was scheduled to be released exclusively on HBO Max.
In 2021, Jorge Lenderborg Jr. and Tosin Cole were cast in lead roles, and some other stars like DC Young Fly, Karen Obilo, and Melvin Gregg also joined the cast in the following months. By July, Lenderborg Jr. was replaced by Jacob Latimore, following the former’s departure from the project to focus on improving his mental health.
House Party will be theatrically released on January 13, and it is still not confirmed if the film will be available on HBO Max after its premiere in cinemas.
