The Songwriters Hall of Fame will soon present Lil Nas X with the Hal David Starlight Award. A very special award that is intended for young songwriters who they consider especially talented and who have made a big impact on music through their original songs.
Lil Nas X rose to fame in 2019 with the song Old Town Road in which he collaborated with Billy Ray Cyrus. This song became the longest running number 1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history after being at the top of the chart for 19 weeks. It also went Platinum 16 times and is recognized with numerous awards, including two GRAMMYs.
The truth is that next to Old Town Road is Montero (Call me by your name), which was a smash hit and led the artist to become an international star. Montero stood out for being a song whose lyrics and, above all, video clip, caused great controversy wherever it was heard. Despite the harsh criticism he received, the support was much higher.
This is one of the reasons why the Songwriters Hall of Fame wants to give him the award, because with his lyrics he has challenged society and the music industry itself and because he has a provocative style, both lyrically and in the variety of genres he uses in his songs.
Lil Nas X himself is aware of how revolutionary he is for the music industry. He proved this in the song Industry Baby, in which he responds very eloquently to all the criticism, mentioning all his awards and making clear his talent, which goes above any homophobic mockery he receives in all his songs.
With a future award on his hands, Lil Nas X is also preparing his Long Live Montero tour, which will kick off at the Filmore in Detroit on September 6 and end at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco on October 23. He will also travel to Europe for a few dates, starting in Amsterdam on November 8 and ending in Barcelona on November 17.
