The last and posthumous show of Virgil Abloh in charge of the creative direction of Louis Vuitton Menswear was an ode and a reflection to all the rest of the collections since he became part of the brand in 2018. He set up the inclusivity in the world of high fashion which was known for being too much exclusive. His team presented the fashion show in Paris in January and it was an unforgettable experience with 20 dancers and a live orchestra directed by Tyler, the Creator. It was emotional and it feels like never seen before. It serve as the close of a phase in luxury and in menswear.
We are in June and the team has organized another fashion show in Bangkok, instead of Seoul were was organized the second round of the previous one. This time the setting is different, there are no dancers but a a house up-side down is in the middle of the set with a big bright sphere around it. Some more pieces were presented with a new casting as well. High fashion brands are trying to expand theirself to the Asian market and Louis Vuitton is one of the big contenders that are pushing forward.
The Louis Vuitton FW22 Menswear served as a representation of how emotional a fashion show can be, apart from the passing of Virgil, the clothing speaks for itself. Streetwear was the main theme in all the styling, while the materials were luxurious and well thought out.
Louis Dreamhouse is the name of the collection and consisted in a lot of garments that reflected the world that Virgil Abloh had constructed in the famous maison. There were some prints from famous painters of the past that reflected the process of create and the pass of time (with De Chirico’s and Courbet’s work, for example). “Maintainamorphosis” is the term the conceptualized the whole collection, the designer explained that is a word that represent how the old and the new need to be mixed together to create anything, because they are both worth it for inspiration. A child fever dream is what it reminds me, anything can be possible, you just need someone to believe and support you.
