Lucy Hale, known for playing Aria Montgomery, one of the main characters of the series Pretty little liars, celebrated Valentine’s Day this year in a special way. The actress last February 14 instead of posting a photo on instagram with her partner, as people normally do, opted for a very different image. It is a beautiful cake with many colors in which there is written “1 year”. At first glance his followers were surprised but when they read the caption they were even more.
Hale told through this post that she has problems with alcohol. “This is an alternative Valentine’s Day publication. This is a publication about self-respect and about the greatest thing I have ever done. On January 2, 2023, I celebrated a year without drinking alcohol,” the actress said. Then she also says that during all this time she has decided to keep it private but that she believes that this was the time to make it public and show people who have this same problem that they can overcome. She quickly received thousands of messages of support from her followers and other celebrities. For example, her friend Demi Lovato, who knows very well what this problem is about and what it takes to solve it, did not hesitate to congratulate her and tell her that she was proud of her.
After this confession Lucy has given an interview for the podcast ‘Diary of a CEO’, by Steven Bartlett. Here has revealed that she has been having problems with alcohol for many years. “I’ve never spoken publicly about being sober, I haven’t had a drink for a little over a year. And I’ve been dealing with being sober since I was 20. I’m 33. It took a while,” the actress said. “I simply clung to the belief that the real Lucy appeared when I drank. I also calmed my mind… I was a compulsive book drinker, I used to have ‘blackouts’ and not remember what I was doing or saying, which is scary,” she continued.
After confessing all this she also told Steven that it has taken her a long time to be without drinking for a whole year. Although she had proposed it many times before, giving up alcohol has not been easy for her. ” I tried to be a moderate drinker, just taking two, but my brain doesn’t work the same way as someone who only takes a glass of wine. He always wants more. I tried to change for boyfriends, for my mother, for my career, for other banal reasons… One of my best friends died of alcoholism and yet that didn’t wake me up. None of that worked. Alcohol isn’t the problem. The problem is this feeling inside me,” Lucy concluded. Fortunately, it seems that the actress has already assumed the problem and is on track to not have any other relapse.
