On November 24, the traditional Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade took place in the streets of New York.
As every year, the fourth Thursday of November is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. To celebrate this day families gather for dinner to give thanks together for the things they have. For dinner the typical thing is to eat turkey with gravy. In the morning the families get together to see the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, which is composed of musical performances, thousands of huge balloons and many floats.
This tradition that has been in force since 1924 this year has carried out the 96th edition of the department store parade. 27 balloons, 31 floats, 12 war bands, 700 clowns, 10 musical performances and Santa Claus have filled the streets of New York at 9 am. Although it has not started at the beginning of 77th West Street and Central Park West until this time, preparations for the parade began at 6 in the morning to make everything go perfectly. In order to get it up and running, Macy’s has more than 5,000 volunteers. Finally the parade has ended in the square of the department stores around 12 noon.
The parade has featured cartoon characters such as SpongeBob, Paw Control or Sesame Street characters to let the little ones enjoy, a part of other big balloons such as the one with the heart of Bad Bunny’s latest album cover.

In addition to presenters such as Jimmy Fallon, there have also been shows of the cast of Pitch Perfect, Betty Who, the well-known boyband Big Time Rush, Balnco Brown, among others. This year has not missed the already known as Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey, nor the turkey float.
As it could not be otherwise, the singer interpreted her Christmas success “All I want for Christmas is you” and although it seemed at first a success, some viewers noticed a small detail: they claimed that Carey used playback during her performance in the parade.
This quickly became the trendy topic of Twitter, where many of her followers commented that Mariah lately constantly uses playback. Still, other tweeters tried to defend her by saying that it is the fault of the floats that do not have enough technology to be able to offer a good sound. A few years ago the singer John Legend already secured this via Twitter while trying to defend the performance of Rita Ora.
Despite these minor technical problems, the parade went as planned and filled both, children and adults with enthusiasm. Although it was held less than a week ago, even the official website of Macy’s is already prepared with the countdown to the 2023 parade, which currently lacks 359 days.
