One of the first jetpack that was introduced in the market was the Martin Jetpack. This jetpack was developed during 35 years. Glenn Martin, the designer of this jetpack, fall in love with this type of vehicles and started developing his own jetpack since he started the university until 2016, when he announced that project.
In 2011 he made a test for this jetpack. In this test, it made a 1,000 meters height fly. Thanks to this test, the Chinese company Kuang-Chi Science invested $50 million for this project. The jetpack was presented during the 2015 Aviation and Space International Show celebrated in Paris, with the P12 model of this flying backpack.
This gadget has a V4 gasoline engine that produces 200 horsepower and is propelled with two ceiling fans, that makes it different from the others jetpack projects. It has a maximum speed of 74 km/h with an autonomy of half an hour. It can support 120 kilogrammes. It has a VTOL technology, very similar to the drones’ technology, that is why is so different from other jetpacks. It includes a parachute system for some difficult moments.
This project, that has some years, was presented 6 years ago, and the company pretended to launch it with a price of $150,000. In the website of the company, it is not on sale, because at the beginning of the project they wanted to put the jetpack on sale for everyone, but now, they only sell this product for safety reasons and to help. In the website they secured:
“The Martin Jetpack is designed to be one of the world’s safest and most practical OPV (Optionally Piloted Vehicles). It can be flown manned, unmanned, and soon as part of a mule train, which finally gives Specialists a tactical air support asset that is able to provide front line rapid response solutions in mission critical environments”.
