Maserati Cielo (“Sky” in Italian) is the supercar convertible version of the Italian automaker. It brings with a redesigned retractable roof, made up of electrochromic glass. It has a 35-inch long glass roof that can be change with the center console controls. The owner can change from translucent to opaque thanks to the Advanced Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal technology. And the company has said that “the new roof helps minimize road noise”.

The MC20 Cielo keeps the roof of the brand of replacing a fixed hardtop with a fold-down roof tacks on weight. Maserati pretends to maintain the 40/60 front/rear weight distribution in this mid-engine car adding an additional 143 pounds in tow, and it is only needed 12 seconds to open or close the roof. A new colour has been added, the exclusive Acquamarina colorway that will be available with the Primaserie Launch Edition, that will have 60 cars. After the launch of this, it will be the Maserati’s classics colours: Bianco Audace, Giallo Genio, Rosso Vincente, Blu Infinito, and Grigio Mistero.

Maserati sees this model “as a blank canvas for customers who wish to customize exterior and interior styling”, and it will have a 10-inch touchscreen equipped with Maserati Touch Control Plus. It is a mix between a sports car and a supercar, and they have focused on chassis rigidity and aerodynamics in the design process.

About the aerodynamic efficiency of the convertible version from its coupe, the automaker has said “Nothing is superfluous—everything has its own function, the aim at the Centro Stile Maserati was to integrate all the demands of aerodynamics in an organic way, as if the car had evolved naturally”. The automaker has secured that the convertible version will have the same performance than the original. It will have five drive modes, adjustable suspension, and 305 section rear tires and will be equipped with the twin-turbocharged Nettuno 3.0-liter V6 engine.

Until this moment, the price and the date of the launch of this car has not been revealed. The date could be late 2022, and the original cost 243,400€, so the convertible version will cost the same more or less.
