On October 1st at 20:30 CET the 2024 playoffs of the American MBL, the pinnacle of world baseball, begin. The playoffs consist of four parts, which we will explain below, and today the first phase begins, which are the `wildcard series´. This first playoffs opening game will host the clash between Huston Astros and Detroit Tigers.
The 2024 MLB postseason is shaping up with several teams already securing their spots. In the American League, the New York Yankees have clinched the top seed, securing a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the AL playoffs. The Cleveland Guardians, winners of the AL Central, have also locked in the second seed and a first-round bye. The Houston Astros will host a Wild Card series as the third seed, while the Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Royals, and Detroit Tigers have all secured wild card berths, with final seedings still being determined.
In the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies have clinched the top two spots, earning byes to the NL Division Series. The Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres are locked into Wild Card series spots, while the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets are fighting for the remaining wild-card positions. The Diamondbacks are also on the edge, needing favorable results to clinch their spot.
The MLB playoff bracket consists of 12 teams and four rounds. In each of both leagues (National and American), the three division winners and three wild card teams qualify. The wild card round is a best-of-three series. The three division winners are ranked 1-3 based on their records, and the three wild card teams are ranked 4-6. The 3rd seed (lowest-ranked division winner) hosts the 6th seed, and the 4th seed (best wild card) hosts the 5th seed. The top two seeds get a bye to the next round.
After this first round, we have the Division series, this is a best-of-five series. The 1st seed faces the winner of the 4th vs. 5th wild card series, and the 2nd seed faces the winner of the 3rd vs. 6th series. The team with the higher seed gets home-field advantage.
The four teams who pass this second round classify to the Championschip series, a best-of-seven series between the winners of the two Division Series in each league. The higher seed gets home-field advantage.
The winners of the two games reach the final, also called the World series, the piek of baseball. The winners of the ALCS and NLCS face off in the World Series, a best-of-seven series. Home-field advantage alternates between leagues each year. The first team to win four games
