The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 was celebrated last week and one of the stars of this event were the McMurtry Speirling, a small electric single-seating car that surpassed the Volkswagen ID. R hill ascent record, making it in 39.08 seconds, 0.8 seconds faster than the German car. The car was driven by the ex-F1 driver Max Chilton.
This McMurtry Speirling is a British car with more than 1,000 horsepower and less than 1,000 kilogrammes of weight. Its dimensions are so small, it is 3.2 meters long and 1.5 meters width. The battery is very small too, it is 60 kWh. It has two electric engines, and car has rear wheel drive. But what makes unique to this car is because it generates 2,000 kilogrammes of downforce thanks to a ventilator that “sticks” the car to the road. All this characteristic afford this car to pass from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.5 seconds and from 0 to 300 km/h in only 9 seconds.
The Company that has fabricated this car, McMurtry Automotive, has said that this car will arrive to the production with a new version adapted to the roads. Thomas Yates, the manager Director of the brand, has said this:
“We want to supply a car that could be driven in the London´s downtown and the in a track. It will never by the most comfortable by passing the speed bumps, but this is not the point. The goal is that you have this incredible, noisy, emotional electric car really compact that you know it will be the fastest in any “track day” you are going. It is prepared for the future too, no emissions. It is very soon in some aspects yet, but we have a prototype that really works and is amazing, but we are still deciding the range of the adjustments that we need to do in this version to the road version. We want to conserve as much as we can from this version”.
