The Mercedes G-Wagen is one of the most iconic vehicle in the German brand. The first it appear was in 1979, and the last version of the 4×4 was launched in 2018. But the most important announce is that it will be the first all-electric version. This is not a leak, the Mercedes-Benz Chairman Ola Kallenius has confirmed the information, and has said that it will be for sale in 2024. Those G-Wagen look like always the same until the first model was launched, but it has been always being changed inside, and that electric conversion could be the definitive one.
The first time we heard about this model was at the Munich Auto Show last September. They put it like a concept describe as a “near-production study of what an electric G-Wagen could be”. Ola Kallenius confirmed on that show that “the final production model rides on a modified version of the current G-Class platform”.
Since Mercedes launched their first all-electric model in 2019, all the EV car’s has been named EQ, so this is why the car has been named EQG. But they have kept the same design as the other 4×4, but they have included some little details to show us that this vehicle is electric, for example, they have changed replacement wheel for a rectangular box where it has the recharge’s wire. It maintains the same robust chassis, and have four different electric engines, each one control one engine.
Mercedes is another brand who is adapting their production to the new era. This all-electric 4×4 will come in 2024, but, for sure, it will be the first of many, and all the brands are preparing to make their own electric 4×4, so we will wait what the brands are preparing.
