The MTV EMA 2022 awards show took place last Sunday, November 13 at the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf, Germany, the sixth time it has been held in the country.
Hosted by Bruce Gillmer and Richard Godfreyde, the show was hosted by Rita Ora and Taika Waititi, and the awards were broadcast live in more than 170 different countries.
The gala kicked off with performances by Muse with “Will of the People,” One Republic with “I Ain’t Worried,” David Guetta, Ava Max and Luis Capaldi, among others.
This time, the MTVs had two new categories, best long-format video and best metaverse performance, and several were the stars of the night. However, the great American artist far surpassed her peers.
It is not the first time that the American artist Taylor Swift is nominated in any of the categories of the awards: already in 2019 she was awarded for best video with her single “Me!”, in collaboration with Brendon Urie. However, this year, after 6 nominations, she managed to grab 4 awards, defining her as best artist, best video, best pop and best long-form video for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version)”.
Another outstanding artist was Harry Styles, who had seven nominations and won only the award for Best Live Performance. In addition, the Generation of Change award was presented to Lina Deshvar, Anna Kutova and Anfisa Yankovin, three Ukrainian women who are fighting the humanitarian crisis in their country.
However, one of the big surprises of the night was Rosalía. The Spanish artist, one of the most listened to artists of the moment, did not win any of the awards despite her five nominations, being overtaken by Bad Gyal, who won the award for best Spanish artist.
Among the winners were also SEVENTEEN, as best new artist, Sam Smith, as video with a positive message, Anitta, as best Latin artist, David Guetta, as best electronic music artist, Muse, as best rock group, or LISA, as best K-POP video.
