Today is International Women’s Day and what better way to commemorate it than talking about the most influential women in today’s music scene. There are many singers, songwriters, producers… who deserve a special mention this day and without them we would not be able to enjoy many of the hits we hear every day.
As every year, Billboard magazine organizes the Women in Music awards gala, an event that seeks to recognize women who have made significant contributions to the music industry. It was held in the city of Los Angeles last Wednesday night, March 2. Awards were distributed among the most outstanding female figures of today’s music scene. Many of them were at the Youtube Theather sharing that moment and, some of them picking up some well-deserved awards.
Olivia Rodrigo was the star of the night as she received the award for Woman of the Year. Sheryl Crow was in charge of giving her the award while sharing some emotional words for her. “When I came in, women were struggling to be the architects of their own careers”, she said.
When I see someone like our Woman of the Year, Olivia Rodrigo, who has such incredible success at such a young age, it blows me away.”
Sheryl crow said
Olivia, shocked by everything that happened, also wanted to dedicate a few words to all those young artists and, also, to thank the women who have worked hard before her to fight for women’s rights in music.
“I want to say to all the young women who write songs every day, in their diaries, on their bedroom floors: your vulnerability, your creativity and your courage constantly move me. And I promise that everyone here today is working to make this world and this industry a better place for you”, she concluded.
