Last June 10 the sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders premiered on Netflix, but luckily for the great followers of the series, this is not the end of the story, as it has been confirmed that it will continue with a movie.
The series finale has left several unanswered questions that seem to be the most important details for the movie, doubts such as what will happen from now on with Finn or if the plan of Gina Gray and Jack Nelson will go ahead. All this with the purpose of giving a real conclusive end to the story of the famous criminal gang.
The film will be shot in Brimingham and its main objective will be to redeem the image of Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy). Since the beginning of the series, set in the pre-World War II period, the ending was planned to take place at the moment when the first air raid siren sounded in Birmingham, so the city is not chosen at random. While it is true that the end was originally going to be in the fifth season, the very development of the series and the characters made the creator, Steven Knight ended up writing many more chapters, so to finish the sixth season and fantasize about a grand finale on the big screens of theaters.
It is also worth noting that during the BFI London Film Festival, Steven Knight did not rule out that Netflix, the BBC or any other type of network or platform, in the future reaporveche its fictional universe to create another project. He stated that the story of Thomas Shelby was going to come to an end, but he does not rule out what could happen in the future even though he does not see himself writing a spin-off, a prequel or a sequel.
No further details about the film are known at the moment, but a future release date of 2024 is already rumored. However, Knight has many more projects and jobs so it is more of a hopeful estimate than an actual reality. In fact, Cillian Murphy himself has assured that while he wishes he was the first to know what’s going to happen in the film, a break is what everyone needs for now. Be that as it may, there is still more story to tell, and Peaky Blinders and its grand finale await us all soon in cinemas around the world.
