In this case, the film Barbarian is one of the many projects that had come out this year. What is Barbarian about?
Barbarian is a Horror/Mystery film that narrates the story of a young woman who discovers the rental home she booked is already occupied by a stranger. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the night, but soon she discovers there is a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest. The story is set in Detroit, United States.

Even though the story is fictional, it catches the audience with its essence of mystery and leaves the viewer with more desire for what is going to happen throughout the film. It has also been a movie that turned out to have positive reviews. Rotten Tomatoes cataloged Barbarian as “certified fresh” giving the film a high score of 92% out of 100% with 187 reviews. Other websites like IMDb and FilmAffinity gave the film a 7.1 out of 10 and 6.3 out of 10 respectively.
The film had a $4.5 million budget and Barbarian grossed 43.4 million US Dollars at the box office, becoming commercially successful.
How did Barbarian develop?
Director Zach Cregger was inspired by the non-fiction book The Gift of Fear written by Gavin de Becker in 1997, where Cregger cites a section of the book that encourages women to trust their intuition and not ignore the red flags that a man could have. Cregger set the story on a woman who settles at an Airbnb late at night where she later finds out that it was double booked.
In relation to the cast, Zac Efron was the first choice to play AJ (Justin Long). However, the High School Musical star turned down the role, so the director took the character’s image in a different direction and this is why Justin Long was cast.

The film is not in theaters anymore since its premiere was in September, yet if you have a Disney+ subscription, you can watch the movie through the streaming platform.
