Roberto Cavalli has always been a brand that stand out for his commitment to the use of animal print (the whole range of it) and more sex inspired clothing that elevate the sensuality of the wearer. When the OG designer was in charge of the brand, he was in every red carpet due to the iconicity of his design work. In the last decade, anything from the brand has been distinguish enough to be in the center of the fashion community, because the head designer that were in charge of the creative team did not understand the methodology of the Italian firm. When in 2020, the company announced that Fausto Puglisi was selected to being the creative director of the brand something change in the industry. With every collection under Puglisi’s mind has been talk about and kind of relevant in the Milan Fashion Week scheduled, because he truly understand all the heritage that Roberto Cavalli created in the 80s and 90s and is able to transform it into new codes without loosing the history of the brand.
The Roberto Cavalli FW22 Menswear is a collection where a whole world/concept is being created, one that is very sex related. Trying to unveil the true sexual self of each wearer, the creative director set up a kind of cult for the visual presentation of the collection, where models change of clothing seeing a definition of themselves through out this process (with a soundtrack that was used in 70s soft porn scenes).
The details in the garments are insane due to the inspiration in BDSM culture. A lot of leather and metallic finishes mixed up with the iconic animal print that represent the brand so well. Black is the centered color of the collection but we can see some popping one in the purple and orange pieces. The silhouettes are definitely very structured and the cuts are typical in the men fashion industry. We can say that the name of Roberto Cavalli is not going anywhere under this new creative direction and males are getting crazy for this kind of pieces.
