The singer released last November 17 her first Christmas EP “Fruitcake”. This album has only 6 songs and last approximately 15 minutes.
Sabrina announced this album November 8 on her Instagram. She posted the album official cover and the back with the list of the songs that were going to be part of it. On the post she wrote “made something special for you guys for the holidays”
This album release date coincide with her performing with Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour on the South America leg. The singer is singing her songs from her last album “Emails I can’t send”.
Later on, the day of the release, November 17, she posted some pictures to remember the album to her fans. She joked on the photos and on the text. She wrote on the post: “just sayin i never seen Santa Claus and Sabrina Carpenter in the same room”
The album has 5 original songs and a cover of a classic Christmas song, “White Christmas”. On the Original songs we have “A Nonsense Christmas”, “buy me presents”, “santa doesn’t know you like i do”, “cindy lou who” and “is it new years yet?”
The first track, “A Nonsense Christmas”, is a holiday remix of one of her most popular songs, “nonsense”, included on her last album “Emails I can’t send”. On the Fruitcake EP, she changes some lyrics, so the song is adapted to the holidays. The production on the song is also updated. Sabrina included some bells and Christmas sounds.
This song was released last year as a surprise song for the fans on holidays. Sabrina decided to put it into the album so she can have all her Christmas songs grouped.
The original song characterizes for the funny lyrics and cheerful rhythm. The EP version take the sexy lyrics to the absurd and is, in fact, a Nonsense song.
The next song is “buy me presents”. Sabrina says that, if you’re not going to give her presents, she knows some others who will. She suggests that Santa might be interested in her. She says there’s someone old, that has a workshop…
On “santa doesn’t know you like i do” she’s in love with a person and thinks he might be the one. It’s the longest song on the EP, with more than 3 minutes. Sabrina doesn’t want him to get separated. She says Santa won’t bring him another one who loves him more that she does, and want him to accept that she’s the one for him. That point of the relationship where both are on different points.
The song “cindy lou who” is a reference to the protagonist of “The Grinch”. Her love has moved on to another love, in this case Cindy. On the lyrics, we can read her saying “The boy who I love is now in love with you”. The sad lyrics are matched with the piano on the production. The ballad shows a more personal side, changing from her funny lyrics and uptempo beats.
The final original song on the EP is “is it new years yet?” she explains her feelings on Christmas. She gets tired of the holiday quickly, don’t support her relatives, and misses him. The song is her basically wishing to be New Years and skip the family holiday. With this song, we get back to the upbeat rhythm.
To close the album, Sabrina chose to cover the famous Christmas song “white Christmas” o “white Xmas” as she wrote it for the title. On this song she shows off her voice making constantly runs and vocal agilities.
With this album, Sabrina is about to end a year when she has got all success and started a new professional era that points to set her between the most famous pop stars on the United States on this decade. Surely she will keep on succeeding, and we are already expecting anxiously her new pieces of work.
