Sony Music has shown particular interest in acquiring half of the music catalogue of “Thriller” singer Michael Jackson.
Sony has already been involved in several purchases of music rights of some prominent artists, but the company has not put on the brakes and has launched a great offer for what could be its BEST acquisition and the biggest of its deals. Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, was undoubtedly one of the greatest musical artista of all time, which has positioned him just a few months ago at number 6 of the highest paid deceased artists according to Forbes magazine.
During his musical career, Jackson collaborated with only two agencies, Sony and CBS, but after his death the estate passed into the hands of John Branca and John McClain. The heirs to the fortune are currently negotiating with Sony Music for the acquisition of a 50% interest in the artist’s music catalogue.
It is known that the sale figures are between 800 and 900 million dollars, and if it comes, it would become the highest paid musical sale in the history.
