The 1989 singer had never introduced Latin America on her global tours. On her first time on Argentina, Taylor got shocked with the crowds and admitted leaving South America out of the tours was a mistake.
The past weekend, Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter (the opening artist on the South America concerts) performed on the River Plate Monument stadium. The official dates were November 9,10 and 11. The stormy day, on the Friday, forced Taylor to postpose her concert to the Sunday 12.
Her presence in the country became a national, social and even political fact. Some fans started camping around the stadium to get the first places. Between her followers they shared “friendship bracelets”, photos of Taylor, stickers and more homemade souvenirs.
On the show, Taylor performed 3 songs she had never sung live before. For “The Very First Night” and “Labyrinth” she decided to make an acoustic version. Meanwhile, for “Is it over now?” she made a mashup with other 1989 song, “Out of the woods”. She also wanted to sing “Slut!”, a new song from her deluxe version of 1989.
Taylor has posted on her Instagram some photos of the event with an emotional text. “Andddd we’re back at it! Starting off the South American leg of The Eras Tour in Argentina = best possible decision. I can’t even express my gratitude to the Buenos Aires crowds. I’d never been to Argentina before and they gave us the most electric, magical memories. Thanks to the amazing fans whose show was postponed Friday for coming back Sunday and blowing us away with your passion and excitement. See you next weekend, Rio!!”
On the other side, Sabrina Carpenter, singer of “Emails I can’t send” and Taylor’s friend, wrote on her social media “Buenos Aires Eras tour you fully reprogrammed my eardrums. I can’t believe how magical those 3 nights were. everyone says thank you Taylor:’)”
These 3 concerts created something like a pilgrimage. The Buenos Aires and the Rio’s concerts are the only ones in South America. That made some fans from other parts like Chile, Colombia or Uruguay travel to see her idol singing.
The more than 70.000 fans left their voices singing and shouting for their idol. Some of the most recurring phrases were “Olé, olé olé olé, Taylor” and “Reputation”. The fans expected Taylor to announce her re-recorded version of “Reputation” but she just laughed.
Another thing that made the fans a little bit crazy was the presence of Taylor’s current boyfriend, Travis Kelce. The Chiefs player has been seen on some Taylor concerts, supporting and accompanying her on her tour. On the other hand, the singer has also traveled to see him playing on various stadiums.
On the night of the second concert, last Saturday on The Eras Tour, the “Blank Space” singer surprised Travis changing the lyrics of a song. On “Karma” she decided to sing “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me” changing the word “screen” on the original lyrics to “Chiefs”.
The fans videos had been everywhere around the social media. And on one of them we can see how Taylor, after finishing one of her concerts, runs to her partner and kisses him. That made the crowd shout out loud.
Argentina has rurely been an increduble experience for Taylor, but it’s not the end. The Eras Tour continues with Europe and Asia soon.
