Halloween season is over, but the spooky content is still on movie theaters and streaming platforms. A film that has recently left much to talk about, has been Terrifier 2 directed by Damien Leone and distributed by Bloody Disgusting. The movie has been circulating in the news and on social networks because the spectators are being shocked, even some have had to leave the theaters due to dizziness. The movie was released on October 6 of this year. The movie with just a $250.000 budget has good reviews and grossed at the box office $10.1 million. Recently, the movie was even submitted to the Oscars to mock the awards.
The first Terrifier movie came out in 2016 and is about Art the Clown, a murderer who caused a massacre on the previous Halloween. The killer’s body has disappeared from the morgue and Art the Clown is believed to be alive. On Halloween night, Tara and Dawn (who are friends) go to a Halloween party and are followed by the clown. In the second film, Art the Clown returns to Miles County after being resurrected by a sinister entity to terrorize a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night.
The cast is formed by Lauren La Vera as Sienna, David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown, Jenna Kanell as Tara Heyes, Catherine Corcoran as Dawn, Samantha Scaffidi as Victoria Heyes, Kailey Hyman as Brooke, Katie Maguire as Monica Brown, Cassey Hartnett as Allie, Elliott Fullam as Jonathan, Felissa Rose as Ms. Principe, Amelie McLain as The Little Pale Girl, and Sarah Voigt as Barbara.
As for the horror genre, it was confirmed that the SMILE movie has become the highest-grossing horror title of the year with around 200 million USD dollars, thus becoming one of the most successful movies of the genre in history. However SMILE is not the most profitable horror movie of the year since this position is for Terrifier 2 which exceeded 10 million USD dollars, this is because Terrifier 2 has a budget of 250,000 USD dollars meaning that they recovered their investment 40 times.
Terrifier 2 has been submitted for Oscars consideration. However, the producers carried out this process because they found it a humorous idea. This is known to have been done to prank the Academy, but the producers of Bloody Disgusting would like to see the film nominated at the Oscars which is considered to be the most important film award.
Historically horror movies have never been sympathetic at the Oscars. Only 18 films have been acclaimed at the ceremony. The last two to win were The Silence of the Lambs (directed by Jonathan Demme) in 1992 which won Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Film Editing. In 2017 Get Out (directed by Jordan Peele) won in the Best Original Screenplay category. Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 24, 2023, and the ceremony will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The movie is still not available on any streaming platforms.
