Period series have become all the rage in recent years. We love them and we have to say that The Bridgertons is one of our favorites. The period drama, The Bridgertons, has had fans eagerly awaiting its second season ever since the first one took Netflix by storm. The return of this second season has been quite a success and triumph for these 19th century families.
For those who don’t know, The Bridgertons is a period drama series set in London high society during the English Regency period of the 19th century. The story focuses on two families, the Bridgertons and the Featheringtons. This series created by Chris Van Dusen and produced by Shonda Rhimes was based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling novels of the same title, set in the competitive world of London high society during the Regency period when young debutantes were presented at court and defined their marital status.
Although Chris Van Dusen’s The Bridgertons takes creative license with many characters and locations, most of the series’ narrative remains true to the original novels, with each Bridgerton sibling finding love on their own terms. Season 1 of The Bridgertons follows closely the events of The Duke and I as Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) becomes entangled with Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), while season 2 focuses on the story of The Viscount Who Loved Me and tells how Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) falls in love with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
The ‘The Bridgertons’ phenomenon knows no bounds on Netflix. The first season became the platform’s most watched series of all time at the time. The second season of The Bridgertons just broke the record for most-watched English-language series on Netflix for a week by totaling 251.74 million hours played between March 28 and April 3.
Fans of The Bridgertons are surely looking forward to getting their hands on the third season after devouring the second one. However, we will still have to wait to see how this adaptation of the popular literary saga continues.
Season 3 of The Bridgertons should be based on An Offer from a Gentleman, the third book by Julia Quinn. There the great protagonist becomes Benedict Bridgerton, the character played in the Netflix series by Luke Thompson. However, there is speculation that the series may change the order and that the next batch of episodes will be based on Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, and in that case the protagonist would be Colin (Luke Newton).
