It is confirmed that Keanu Reeves will be on our screens in 2023, and he will definitely be reprising his role as John Wick with the fourth installment of the franchise. The film is directed by Chad Stahelski who already directed the three previous films of the saga created by Derek Kolstad. John Wick 4 is set to release on March 24, 2023. The trailer was released on November 10, 2022, and caused sensations all over the Internet, since it gained 32 million views in just three weeks. It has been almost four years, but the wait is almost over.
The plot of John Wick 4 is still uncertain. Keanu Reeves confirmed the movie will start off with John Wick riding a horse, also he said it would be one of the best action scenes in the industry. If we recall, in the third movie, John Wick was presumed as dead after Winston shot him. Apparently, the first minutes of the upcoming film will give us an answer to this question.
If you do not know who John Wick is, the fictional character played by the actor Reeves is a former hitman who is forced back into the criminal underworld he had abandoned. The franchise began in 2014 with the first film, followed by John Wick Chapter 2, and John Wick Chapter 3, which premiered in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
This installment’s cast is formed by Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Donnie Yen as Caine, Bill Skarsgård as Marquis, Laurence Fishburne as Bowery King, Hiroyuki Sanada as Shimazu, Shamier Anderson as Tracker, Lance Reddick as Charon, Rina Sawayama as Akira, Scott Adkins as Killa, Ian McShane as Winston, Marko Zaror as Chidi, Natalia Tena as Katia, and Aimeé Kwan as Mia.
As recurring we have Clancy Brown, George Georgiou, Brahim Chab, Jackey Mishra, Robert Bess, Selman Iyi, and Mako San.
From this cast, we need to highlight Rina Sawayama who is originally a British-Japanese singer, and she has an appearance in the TV Show Turn Up Charlie. She was selected since the director wanted someone who could do choreography, and Stalhelski had seen her music videos for “XS” and “Bad Friend”, the videos feature dance and fighting, respectively.
On May 20, 2019, Lionsgate announced John Wick: Chapter 4 via their opt-in “John Wick” text update service. Director Chad Sthelski confirmed on a Reddit “AMA” thread that there had been discussion for another film and that he would be involved with the project should the threequel be successful. By that moment, even though the movie was confirmed, it was not confirmed if the star Keanu Reeves would return for a new installment, but he did.
In June 2021, Fishburne, Sanada, Yen, Skarsgård, Anderson, and Adkins were cast in the film. Reddick and McShane confirmed they were both reprising their roles as Charon and Winston respectively, and later Clancy Brown joined the cast.
Production began on June 28, 2021, in Berlin and Paris, with additional filming to take place in Japan and New York City. On October 27, 2021, principal photography wrapped.
