The actor will play Kevin Von Erich on the big screen
Most people know Zac Efron for his starring role in the High School Musical films, where he became known as a teenager. But the truth is that since he played the basketball star Troy Bolton, the actor does nothing but receive great roles in Hollywood in which to show off his muscles. The last project he’s working on is a movie for the big screen about the former boxer Kevin Von Erich. It is directed by Sean Durkin and is expected to be released later this year.
Zac has accepted a huge physical challenge participating in this film in which he plays the boxer since in addition to gaining muscle he has had to get a large size. According to what Farren Morgan, his coach, told to GQ, he has achieved it using a training type known as ‘bulking’. “It is a term widely used in the field of fitness to refer to those who have decided to increase their caloric intake and combine this caloric surplus with intensive weight training to increase their muscle mass and strength,” he explained for the magazine. He then added that: “If you decide to start increasing volume, you will have to continue with the second phase, known as cutting, to reduce the body’s fat levels, and the third phase, known as maintenance, to retain muscle growth and provide adequate time for your body to adapt to muscle growth and physical transformation”. Due to the wide diet that he could consume with this method, Efron has achieved the challenge in the planned time and without going through any health problems. On the other hand it happened in one of his previous works for which he could only feed on green leafy vegetables.
Getting to get a body as fit as the one Zac shows in his movies is not easy. The former Disney star has had to suffer a lot with training to get to where he is now. One of the biggest challenges he faced was during the filming of Baywatch. In this film he shared screen with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, so he had to start with a rigorous training to mark each and every one of his muscles. This effort, he said, pushed him to the limit to such an extent that Efron suffered depression because of the mental effort he had to make. Luckily it seems that all this has been left behind him as he has decided to continue facing major changes to continue his career in the world of acting.
