The fifth phase of the marvel universe will bring us many movies like Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, but also within this time frame is the movie The Marvels directed by Nia DaCosta. the film is scheduled to be released on July 28, 2023. The Marvels is the sequel to Captain Marvel. Since the film was recently announced there is no official trailer yet, but Marvel fans are already creating theories of what could happen in this movie and how it will affect Phase Five of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).
The film is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The Marvels is the sequel of Captain Marvel (2019) and a continuation of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel released in 2022, this film will be the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Marvel Studios confirmed plans to make a sequel to Captain Marvel in 2019. Its development began in January 2020. Principal photography started in early August 2021 and concluded in May 2022, taking place at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and Longcross studios in England. Also, some filmings took place in Los Angeles, and Italy.
The Marvels is set after the events of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel (2022), Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau begin swapping places with each other every time they use their power, they must team up to figure out what is going on.
So far the cast will feature Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel who is an avenger and ex-U.S. Air Force. Danvers’ DNA was altered during an accident, imbuing her with superhuman strength, energy projection, and flight.
Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms.Marvel, a teenage mutant from Jersey City who idolizes Captain Marvel. Ms. Marvel is characterized for wearing a magical bangle that unblocked her ability to harness comic energy and create hard light constructs.
Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. She is an agent of S.W.O.R.D. and has the ability to absorb energy. Monica is the daughter of Danvers’ friend Maria Rambeau (who was also part of the Air Force). This character already appeared in Wandavision aired in 2021.
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury who is the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury is now working with the Skrulls in deep space.
Last but not least, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur are set to reprise their respective roles from Ms. Marvel (2022). Shaikh is Aamir (Khan’s older brother), Shroff plays the role of mother Muneeba, and Kapur is father Yusuf. Zawe Ashton has also been cast to play the role of the villain, and the South Korean Park Seo-joon has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
Production on the film began when Brie Larson confirmed an interest in doing a sequel with the character Kamala Khan. The development of the film began in 2020 and at first, the premiere of the film was scheduled for July 8, 2022, but this date was changed to July 28 of the following year.
The film was promoted by Larson, Parris, and Vellani who were present at this year’s D23 Expo, exclusive scenes from The Marvels were also shown. Without a doubt, it is a highly anticipated movie by the public since many important characters from the Marvel Multiverse will appear, and seeing them all together in a movie is undoubtedly a privilege for fans.
